Introduction to Silversmithing Jewellery

New to the online community! Join this fun and friendly course that has run live in Australia over the last 37 years – in Brisbane, Ipswich, Ballina, Lismore, Byron, Tweed, Sunshine and Gold Coast.

You learn to design and create at least 3 pieces of original jewellery in Sterling Silver .925. The three projects have been designed to give you optimal learning outcomes. Once this Level is completed, you are skilled enough to learn gemsetting and other advanced techniques; and Level 2 courses will be available to you in whatever techniques you want to specialise.

You will learn the correct techniques to work with any precious metal including gold. Students learn to design, size, saw, file, sand, polish, anneal and solder Sterling Silver.

Beginners make a ring; linked chain bracelet and/or earrings; and a solid multi component cuff or round bangle to be proud of.

This 18 hour course when live can run for 3 hrs x 6 days or 6 hrs x 3 days.

Online students will need to buy materials, tools and equipment as listed in your course notes. I can’t quote any prices as they fluctuate, but be prepared to spend at least $600 if you are setting up a trade workshop from scratch.

Be prepared to wear closed in leather shoes, long hair tied back, and no loose flowing or flammable clothing. Bring pen and paper to your workspace.

You are learning the introduction to the Trade of Jewellery Manufacturer, as well as knowledge also taught by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths as a Guild.
